In mythology, magic and esoteric ebony is often attributed to a magical effect. Houses with ebony piles can not be accessed by evil spirits, or weapons of ebony should be able to wound demons. Also wands are often made of ebony, as magic items should be stored in boxes made of ebony, to retain their power. The most popular mention of ebony in the legends and fairy tales is certainly the story of Snow White:
A queen greatly desires a child. One winter she sits at the window that has a black ebony frame, and sew. She accidentally pricks herself with the needle in the finger. When she sees three drops of blood falling into the snow, she thinks: "If I had a child as white as snow, as red as blood and as black as ebony" fulfilled your request, and she has a daughter, Snow White is called because she has fair skin, red cheeks and black hair.
